my gt125 progress.....

Postby scubabiker » Wed Mar 14, 2012 6:55 pm

so thought its time for an update....
when i last posted, my bike was off the road because i wanted to change the rings.....
(it was missing on the left side when cold)
since then....
ive sent the crank for rebuild (stan stevens £240)... more details to follow...
new gasket set
new pistons and rings
new small end bearings
new seals all round
tank stripped to metal
more porting done to transfers
velocity stacks
digital speedo as old one was useless
reloomed
all lights removed (will get daytime MOT)
started fitting some expansion chambers but still need more modification...
combustion chamber has been polished to reduce carbon build up

about the crank...
when i bought the bike, the left side was rebored to .5mm oversize and right was standard... the cylinder head was really pitted which suggested that the left side had blown a ring at high RPM...
since then i rebored it and rode it several thousand miles
first time the crank hass been rebuilt in 32 years, the main bearings are all fine and so good that they didnt get changed!! the left big end tho was non existant and the bike had been running for thousands of miles like it, luckily i never let it run without oil or it would have seized... so the crank pin needed replacing which...
was part of the crank web and not available to buy new (the conrods had to be ordered from japan!) but luckily stan stevens had a spare crank that he used...
get the parts tomorrow to rebuild her, will attach a pic so you can see how she looks now

finally got it started, took a million kicks and its running rough on the left side (gonna check the left crankseal as its an old one) will get a couple of new plugs soon and sort out the jetting properly... it was great to fill the sky with castor oil smoke....

magic battery is only 6 volts with ignition on, 10 with ignition off....
URGH.....
might run a batt eliminator as its kick start only even tempted to get rid of the lights and get a daylight MOT
