general question '68 Bonneville

Like many of the Coventry makes, Triumph had their roots in the bicycle industry, beginning motorcycle production in 1902.

general question '68 Bonneville

Postby gergstuff » Mon Feb 18, 2013 11:53 pm

Hello,

Just bought a '68 Bonneville 650 that has a '71 650 engine in it.

A friend showed me his sales brochure when he was looking at one new back in '68 and it shows it with a tachometer (rev counter) which is missing on mine.

My question is did all Bonnevilles back in '68 have the aforementioned tach?

If so, where was it driven from?

I would like to find one and install it if it was supposed to have one.

Not sure if there was a different location for the drive on a '71 engine.

I am sure someone out there has this knowledge tucked away in their brain!

Thanks,

Craig

If memory serves me correctly the 68 Bonny had the tacho drive from the end of the cam while the 69 on had it in a different place on the engine cases,
Mr T will know for sure.

Always from the ex cam end on units, but be careful what you buy (Ebay etc) as by '71 the tacho drive (or blanking plug) had a left handed thread.
I don't recall ever seeing a 650 with the blanking plug (they all had tachos) but maybe in other markets or export models?

"Oh cheers mate, thanks for the info, most helpful, my bike is complete now...etc etc"

Wouldn't a bit of feedback be nice now and again? :112
