I have a question about Honda 90 stators

Postby SuzukiK10 » Sat Mar 01, 2014 8:13 pm

Was it common for the stators on the old Honda 90's to puke out? I picked up a couple Honda CL-90's last year and it appears a dead stator was the issue with them. I know these two bikes are approaching their 50th year, but I was just curious. :207

seems odd, never known of any problems with the 90 stators giving trouble, normally they are indestructible little motorcycles.

Yea, I always knew the honda 90 are tough. Hence the reason why I have one I'm restoring. :150
I went ahead and got a new stator, since this is a restoration project, anyhow. I was just curious if anyone else has experienced this.
Would it be harmful for the stator, if the bikes have been ran with bad bateries or no batteries? I thought that may be a possibility as well.

I have found with old Jappers that they don't like running without a battery, as long as the battery generates a circuit the generating system is fine. The wife has a GSX 550 EF that blows the alternator every time it is run with out the battery connected, but even with a flat battery its fine.

Yea, that makes sense, especially if the wiring that is supposed to hook up to the battery may accidently arc out. I'm pretty sure that with these two bikes, I acquired, the batteries have been absent for some time.
