Digless injustice & Treasures.

Postby Stuart SS » Sat Feb 04, 2012 2:31 am

Hi blokes.
Like some others I am in regular if not daily contact with Jan Johston, Digless's widow ~

SHe has an auction coming up in March for all of Digless's treasures so you Kiwi mates please go and support her (??)

We have a date for the vintage motorcycle auction. it is 24th March. we have been told
not to expect a huge amount $$$$ from it sadly, it is just the way the economy is at the moment
.

Anyway she made the comment
~Annette has just informed me it is the big classic meeting at Pukekohe at the moment, i forgot, see how easy it is. They had to go into town and she said she could hear the roar of the motor cycles. oh how Dig loved those 3 day weekends, He competed for 21 years or more on his little 350 BSA, he got a first place for 350 Pre War Scratch on his last ride..

I did not know until after he died, he was never one to boast, he got lots of 2nds and 3rds throughout the years.

He went a whole lot more than "few 2nd and 3rds" to my knowledge ~

I was trying to find the photos of the club memorabilia board which noted Digless as NZ champion. I was hoping we could put together some solid facts to present to her , even if was a post here in the CMB site ~

In this respect I really empathise with Digless when the Classic bike-net site lost all his fantastic efforts ~ which so many of us followed but he never finished ~

So it would be appreciated if anyone can help out here ~

Here is Ms M's efforts to date ~

First year I have not been able to get there, must admit since we lost Dig it not been the same, no after the race drinks in the pits at night etc, and we have just not had the money and time to get down to see Jan for a while.

Post up the date and time of the auction, at least we could try get there to offer some support.

Jan emailed with the current details she has ~

The auction is at webbs auction house in Auckland, shed 5 they call it and it will be on Saturday March 24th.

That is all i know at this stage. The programme is about to be printed..

There will be about 40 lots. all neatly presented so i am sure there will be a few bargains as he wasn't into expensive machinery.

The auction is not about money, it is to share his collection with people who appreciate these sort of things and i know how hard it is to get hold of that special item and i would hate to dump it knowing someone out there could use it.

His will not be the only collection for sale.

Try and google the website you may get an idea of the last one held in Oct last year. Annette went to the preview and was very impressed.
